Why won't my email connect or sync?

Connecting your email is a Growth feature, and every Kattia account includes it today.

You manage the connection in Settings › Connected inbox. This article covers the common problems, in the order you are likely to meet them.

The connection fails

Select Connect Google. Kattia takes you to Google in the same tab, not in a pop-up, so a pop-up blocker is not the cause.

Google shows a warning screen

Before you leave Kattia, a notice titled Connect your email explains that Google will show a warning. Select Continue to Google. On the Google screen, choose Advanced, then Go to Kattia.

You chose the wrong account or declined access

If you cancel on Google's screen, or Google does not confirm the connection, Kattia brings you back and shows a message such as "Couldn't reconnect Google. Please try again." or "Google didn't confirm the connection. Please try again." Select Connect Google again and approve the access.

If you connected the wrong account, disconnect and connect again:

  1. Open Settings › Connected inbox.

  2. Select Disconnect…, then Disconnect Google.

  3. Select Connect Google and choose the account you use for your search.

Disconnecting deletes the emails, inbox suggestions, email events and calendar events that Kattia synced. It keeps your applications, your own notes and any notes sync already added to your applications.

You see another message

  • "Gmail sync isn't available for your account right now." Email connection is switched off for your account. Try again later or contact support.

  • "Google sync isn't configured in this environment. Contact support." Contact support.

  • "Gmail integration isn't configured in this environment." on Settings › Connected inbox. Contact support.

You are connected but see no emails

Kattia does not sync in the background. You start each sync yourself.

  1. Open Inbox sync. On a computer, select Inbox sync at the bottom of the sidebar. On a phone, select the inbox button in the header.

  2. Select Sync now.

Each sync reads up to 80 job-related emails from the last 30 days, plus your calendar. A first sync can take a little while, and Kattia shows "Still syncing." while it works. If a sync finds nothing, Inbox sync says "No new activity found."

Kattia skips mail in the Promotions tab and job-alert digests from sites such as LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor. Mail about your own applications, such as receipts and recruiter messages, is still read.

If you see "Too many syncs. Please wait before syncing again.", wait a while, then select Sync now again.

If the sync summary says the opportunity queue is full, review or skip the suggestions under New opportunities found to make room for more.

A sync does not finish

  • "Couldn't reach Kattia. Check your connection and try again." Check your internet connection, then select Sync now again.

  • "Something went wrong on our end. Try again in a moment." Wait a moment, then select Sync now again.

  • "Google access expired." or "Gmail access was revoked or scopes are missing." Reconnect your email. See the next section.

The connection stops working

Kattia shows Reconnect Google in Settings › Connected inbox, and a banner in Inbox sync that starts "Google access needs re-authorisation." You also get a notification titled Gmail needs reconnecting. This happens when Google no longer accepts the saved connection, for example because you removed Kattia's access in your Google Account.

To fix it, select Reconnect Google and approve the access again.

If a sync summary starts with "Calendar:" and suggests you reconnect, reconnect as well. That can happen if you connected before Calendar access was added.

If Search your inbox says "Showing results from synced emails only.", reconnect to search your whole inbox again.

Disconnecting did not remove access

If Kattia says "Google didn't confirm that Kattia's access was removed", also remove Kattia on your Google Account permissions page.

What Kattia can and cannot do

Kattia asks for read-only access to your email and calendar. It cannot send, delete or change anything. If Google asks you to allow more than reading, stop and contact support.
