Each story follows the STAR format: Situation, Task, Action and Result. You reuse them across interviews to answer behavioural questions with specifics.
What STAR means
Situation: the context. Where were you, and what was happening?
Task: your responsibility. What needed to happen, and what was your role?
Action: what you did. Describe the specific steps you took.
Result: the outcome. What changed? Add numbers when you can.
Why STAR helps
Interviewers ask questions such as "Tell me about a time when...". A story in this format keeps your answer structured, specific, focused on your contribution and anchored in a result.
Write your first story
Pick an accomplishment you are proud of.
Write one or two sentences for each part.
Check that the Result has a number or a clear outcome and that your Action is specific.
Here is an example:
Situation: The checkout flow had a 40% drop-off rate. The team suspected the payment step.
Task: I was asked to investigate and propose fixes within two weeks.
Action: I ran user tests on the payment step, found three friction points, and redesigned the form with clearer labels and fewer fields.
Result: Drop-off fell from 40% to 22% in the first month.
Save a story in Kattia
In the sidebar, select My library, then open the Stories tab.
Select Add story.
Fill in Situation, Task, Action and Result.
Add Tags (comma-separated) if you want. For example: leadership, revenue, conflict.
Select Save.
Add stories from a document
If you already have stories written down, you can extract them instead of retyping:
In the New story window, select Upload document.
Select Select file, then choose a PDF, DOCX or TXT file up to 12 MB.
Kattia extracts the stories it finds. To keep them all, select Save all. To edit one story before you save it, select that story. Kattia opens it in the form and clears the other extracted stories.
Select Switch to manual entry to go back to the form. Uploaded documents are listed on the tab, where you can download or delete them.
Use your stories before an interview
The Prep tab of an application has a Check story coverage button. It maps the generated interview questions for that role to your saved stories and lists any gaps. You need at least one saved story and a generated list of interview questions first. See Preparing for an interview.
How many stories to keep
Start with five to ten stories that cover:
A leadership moment
A technical or craft challenge
A collaboration success
A failure and what you learned
A time you exceeded expectations
Add more as your experience grows. To delete a story that no longer shows your best work, select Delete on its card, then select Remove to confirm.
