Preparing for an interview

Kattia gives you prep tools on each application and keeps your stories and notes in the Library.

The prep tools are Growth features, and every account has Growth features today. See What is the difference between Free and Growth?.

See what's coming up

The Calendar page shows an Upcoming interviews reminder when you have a round logged in the next seven days. Select Open this interview to go straight to that round on the application.

Open an application's Prep tab

  1. In the pipeline, open the application.

  2. Select the Prep tab.

The Prep tab has four buttons:

  • Interview questions: generates questions you might be asked for this role.

  • Prep focus: generates a short list of topics to concentrate on.

  • Resume vs Role Assessment: compares your default resume with the role and shows gaps, keywords and suggested rewrites. It needs the job description, which you add on the Overview tab.

  • Check story coverage: maps the generated questions to your saved stories and lists any gaps. It needs generated interview questions and at least one saved story.

Each result has a control to regenerate it, and the interview questions, prep focus and story coverage results can also be copied. Read every result before you rely on it. The output is a starting point, and it can be wrong.

Research the company

On the application's Company tab, select Enrich company to add company details. The application needs a company name first. Before an interview, also check:

  • What the company does: product, market and mission.

  • Recent news or announcements.

  • The interview format: who you meet, how long and what type.

Prepare your stories

For behavioural questions, pick stories from the Library. See Writing and saving stories. Aim for three to five stories that match the role, and practise telling them aloud.

Prepare your own questions and talking points

Write down:

  • Why you want this specific role.

  • The experience that matches their requirements.

  • Questions you have about the team, role or company.

  • Your target pay range and other factors that matter, such as remote work or equity, if the process may reach an offer.

You can keep these in an interview note. See Taking and saving interview notes.

On the day

  1. Read the job description once more.

  2. Skim your company research.

  3. Re-read your stories and say one aloud.

  4. Prepare your questions for them.

  5. Confirm the logistics: time, video link or address, and who you are meeting.

After the interview

Write notes straight away. Log the round on the application's Timeline & Interviews tab, or add a note in the Library.
